Happy New Year

This is my last project of 2011. I made a winter table topper for my family room. I like how it cam out. I think I needed a winter feel for the room. These maybe the only snowflakes I see this year in my area.

This is a pictures of my donated items this year. I made shopping/book bags, crocheted hats and quilts which were donated to Frontier Missions.

The spools of thread I used in 2011. I used 23 large, 4 medium, 8 small, and 30 midget. I wonder how many I will use in 2012.

I know I was not a productive in 2011 as in past years but life sometimes does that to us. I did not make a list this year as I was not very good at keeping track of what I made. I made many of the same things and did not want to bore people with pictures of the same type of item over and over so I didn't keep track of all the projects. I am working on one quilt now, have two I need to complete, they were probably started 2-3 years ago so they should be well aged by now. I certainly have plenty of fabric to sew, that is not a problem.

Recent completes

This quilt was made with some of the fabrics purchased at the Knit Piks warehouse sale earlier this year. The quilt turned out larger than I expected. It fits my queen bed with approximately 8 inch drape on each side.

This quilt is the one I made for my grandson. I make them a big quilt (twin size) for their first birthdays. I choose sports theme for this little fella. I don't know if I really choose such a great pattern to use, I think it is way to busy.

Trip around the world for charity.

Bow-Tie, I will donate to Charity. I maned this quilt "Those Damn Tutors". I sewed it together while watching The Tudors on NetFlix and was so caught up in the mini series I didn't get all the bow-ties in the same direction. That is one of the best mini series I have ever seen. Highly recommend. Not for the faint of heart of children though.

Another Trip around the world for charity.

Well I best get going. Have my errands to run and sewing to get to. We just got back from Colorado and I haven't been sewing for approximately a week. I have been knitting and will share those projects in a few days.

I am still here

One of my co-workers just had a baby, this is a topper I made for her to put on the dresser for the new little one. I haven't met the baby in person yet but the pictures sure are cute.

Some Halloween table toppers I have made. I am busy quilting but not so busy with taking pictures of the quilts. I guess I should start doing that so I can share what I have been working on. A few I can't show just yet and that is probably why I don't post any. I know, that is a dumb excuse but it is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Booties I knit for my grandson. I found the pattern on the internet, ordered it and had to make a pair right away. They are so easy to knit up, I even revamped the pattern to make them a bit easier. I love the look.

Not much more to say right now. I know it has bee way to long and I have lost many readers but for you that have hung in here with me, I certainly do Thank-You. I pray everyone has a great day.

Warehouse sale

Knit Picks had a warehouse sale today. What a sale! My daughter and I went, the fabric was 2.69 a pound, the e-mail stated the fabric pieces were 4" by 24" samples and not to many to choose from, NOT, they were yardage pieces and boxes of fabric. We had fun digging and finding much treasure but left a lot for other shoppers. Yarn was 12.00 a pound and there was plenty of that to choose from. I didn't purchase to much yarn as I have plenty now, not that I don't have plenty fabric but I seem to use up my fabric faster. Books were 5.00 each, I didn't even look at the books but my daughter bought three really good books. I thought I didn't need any but after seeing hers I should have looked.

This was the first time Knit Picks has had a warehouse sale and I certainly hope not the last. I loved it and look forward to another. Well I better get sewing so I can have room to store more fabric and yarn if they happen to do another sale.

Pray for those lives lost and affected by the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. What a solemn day for America but we will eventually become a stronger more secure nation due to these circumstances.

May God continue to Bless our great country and may the people of this country turn back to God.

Conan's quilt

My second grandson had his first birthday this month. I make the kids a big twin size quilt for their first birthdays and this is Conan's/ His mom told me he likes cars. I had a very hard time finding fabric with cars on it and I found this. After I made the quilt I have found other fabrics but this is what I had to choose from before.

I am not complaining, I like the fabric and so does Conan and his mommy, and that is what is important.

I don't know where the summer is going. I can't say I have accomplished much but here it is almost August. I hope my accomplishments are a few more next month than they have been this one.

I am quilting on a new top tonight and hope to have it done tomorrow. I have to smaller TATW's to quilt and them two tops from about 4 years ago to complete. I don't know why I have been sitting on these two quilts but I do think they have probably aged enough now.

I have another birthday quilt to make before October, the fabric is purchased and I know the pattern I will use, I just have to finish up the loose ends elsewhere.

Camp quilts and hats

This is my 4th of July camp quilt. I used different patriotic fabrics and the basic "Trip Around the World" pattern. It should fit the bed fine.

I also made this hodge-podge quilt. We needed double size quilts for the bed in the shed so I made these two to take up on our next trip. I used 2.5 inch strips for this quilt. I had a box of strips cut from something I was working on about 5 years ago so I just put them together in this mish-mash design. Not a "traditional" quilt but a quilt that will keep us warm non the same.

I went to the fabric store yesterday to purchase some fabric to make a quilt for my grandson. Grandson #1 was with me and he found this dinosaur fabric he wanted a hat out of. I purchased a yard of the fabric than came home and searched the internet for a free pattern to make a hat. I have enoung to make three hats for my three grandsons and a bit left over. I might try another style hat with the left over if time allows.

Well I better get to laundry and house work. Have a good day one and all.

Where have I been

I have been busy. I have knit this fish hat for my grandson with a few more to knit before I am done.

I had a birthday, this is the cake my co-workers gave me. It was so good. A home made carrot cake, I mean a real carrot cake, not a spice cake disguised as a carrot cake. So many calories it blew my diet for the week-end.

I have been to my Mom's for a visit. This is the quilt top I made while at her house for Mother's Day. She had some fabric we went through, these blocks were in the fabric so I just had to sew them together into a top. I have quilted this top but don't have a picture of it quilted yet. I have decided to name the quilt "Week-en at Gigi's".

I have been to Montana. This is the new set up for my cooking and washing dishes area. I have a little sink set up and I like it. Sure does make things easier.

I spent much of my time chopping wood. My husband and worked on a building and while he was doing things I couldn't help with I chopped wood. We have two more trips planned for the year so we will need a lot of wood for fires. I also learned I burned a lot of calories chopping this wood.

Here is the building we made during the week-end. It sure is nice to see our camping area coming together.

I did catch a horrible cold while camping. When we got home I starting getting a really bad sore throat and have been under the weather since. My throat is getting better but I do get coughing jags that are uncontrollable. I suppose these will go away also.

I am working on other quilt tops and busy knitting on another fish hat. I will post more as things progress. Thanks for being so patient with me.

A bag and a quilt

I made another bag, well actually two but no sense in showing the same bag twice. If you want to see that friend me on FB and you will see both. The bag I made last week, a co-worker wanted it a bought it from me. I made one last night and my sister wanted it. I came home to an e-mail tonight asking if I could make another for a friend so here is number three and I still don't have one for myself. Next one is mine, hopefully.

I have completed the quilt. I like the outcome. I do think there is too much pink but oh well, my background fabric maybe wasn't the right choice but it was fun to make and I had fun playing, Isn't that what quilting should be about, playing and seeing what happens. That is my style of quilting. I followed the concept in the book One Block Wonder Encore!. FUN, FUN, FUN!

Well I best find some fabric I have misplaced. I need to make an overnight bag for my grandson. I mixed up pajama's last weekend and put the 2 1/2 year old in bed with the pajama's that were sent over for the nine month old. OOPS, I wondered why they seemed so small, he didn't complain and slept well. Maybe he thought he was in a straight jacket. :) I will make another overnight bag and they will have their own bag so maybe this won't happen again.

I made a bag

My latest complete. I followed the directions on MODA BAKE SHOP and made this cute little bag. I was going to use it for my i-touch and accessories but plans changed. I showed the bag to a co-worker and she wanted it. What was I to do so I sold it to her. I can always make another and this was a bit to large for my purpose. I also think I will make a few changes for what I want the bag for anyway.

I am busy quilting the geometric quilt I have been working on. I must say I do get side tracked often. I spent most of Wednesday working outside, therefore not getting much sewing done.

Well I will get back to sewing, just wanted to share and update so everyone knows I am still here and busy.

This is what I have come up with. I will fill it in with black and go from there. I am happy with the outcome being this is the first attempt at a quilt like this. Certainly has bee fun working on this quilt. I may make a few minor adjustments but for the most part ready to sew together.

Here is my latest complete. I can't say I am really happy with the finished product but my daughter likes it and want the quilt to use outside with her kids, so that will be the new home for this quilt. I used a pattern Bonnie Hunter posted, I can't say I did the pattern service, but as usual Bonnie provided a great pattern to make.

I have started a new quilt. Let me know what you think. I don't know if the blocks are two bright. I don't know if I like the dotted orange. I would like some input. Thanks for your help in advance.

My friend went on vacation and I collected eggs for her. This was the first days gathering. I collected 43 the first day and 34 the second. They are so good.

A picture of what happens when you don't thread your machine properly. It seems like all the years I have bee sewing I would be able to thread my machine. Oh well, I ripped it out and finished the quilt. I will post a picture when I can figure out what I did.

It is still bad situation now in Japan. We are still nervous about shaking and radiation,but no way to escape. I start to announce to the quilters to send us comfort quilts for the people who are suffered.I would like to do it to the world quilters. Be Mine

This is the Valentine quilt I was working on. I ended up sewing it twice. I didn't like how it was working out the first time around so I had to rip it out and redo my thinking go how to put it together. It is an original, using up Valentine HST's I had left over from a quilt I made a few years ago.

My second scrappy basket quilt. I decided I wanted one for my bed so I had to make it bigger, making more scrappy baskets. It is completed and now I don't know if I want to keep it. I can't really decide if I like it or not. Time will tell, I don't have to make a decision until the fall when I donate quilts.

My computer died on me during the night. I woke up this morning to nothing. I was so frustrated. I let my husband know so it wouldn't be a big surprise to him when he came home from work. He worked on it and now I have a working computer again. I am very happy he fixed it with a new power supply. I was concerned there would be many dollars going out for a new computer and then on top of that the decision of a desk top or lap top. The selection at the store would lead me towards lap top as they had numerous lap tops and very few desk tops. I guess that will be the next dinosaur in the electronic world, the desk top will be at thing of the past. How quickly electronics come and go.

Well, I better be getting to bed. I am off tomorrow but as anyone who works knows, your days off are always busier than your days at work.

I ordered a rotisserie and hope it arrives tomorrow. I want to try a chicken or roast in it. I am so excited to get it. I know, little things excite me. Maybe I need to get a life.

Tote Bag

I have a co-worker whose daughter has birthday on Saturday. She will be two and I thought this little tote bag would be a great gift for her. I plan to purchase a few books to put into the bag also. The tote was fun to make even though I didn't really know what I was doing. I made a tote for my grandson last summer but misplaced the pattern so I made this one up as I went along.

I finished the Valentine quilt and have moved on to completing another quilt I started last year, no pictures yet, I have to wait for a spot that I can get a picture. My husband has decided to do some work in the linen closet, therefore all my linens and quilts are piled up against the wall where I usually take my pictures. I will post a picture of the quilt when I can.

Moving On

I have finished Cotton Boll and have moved on to a new project. I am using up Valentine HST's that been floating around my sewing room for about 5 years now. I am tired of the stuff hanging and collecting dust so my goal for this year is "GET THESE THINGS OUT!" This is my first attempt.

Here is the picture of the completed Cotton Boll. I like how it came out and slept with it on my bed last night. I am surprised how long it took me to make. I started in Dec and finally finished yesterday. I think that is the longest I have worked on a continuous project. Let me explain continuous: a project that has not been purposefully set aside because I am pondering the next move.

Cotton Boll loaded

I have finished with the Cotton Boll quilt top and now in the process of quilting it. I like how it turned out but I don't care for the bias edges. I don't know if it is me or just the way the quilt turned out but the edge is on a bias and wavy. I do have some buckling while quilting but it is alright because I will keep this quilt for myself. Bonnie has once again offered up a wonderful quilt pattern.

Lunch in Hana

My husband and I drove to Hana for the day. It was a very interesting and fun drive, long also. Needless to say we had to have some lunch so we stopped at a Thai eatery for lunch. I wanted my picture outside of the place so my husband snapped this of me. Well, see that little orange cone, just don't tempt me with such things when I am in a silly mood, you just don't know what will happen.

Are you ready to see what happens when I am just being silly and have something that tempting placed there for me to play with?

Here it is. Oh, what fun we had laughing about my new found hat, I even made the young women at the counter laugh.

Maui for the first time

Not the best picture but this is my hubby and me at Haleakala Carter on Maui. I finally relented and agreed to fly to Hawaii. My brother and law and his family live here so we are visiting family and having a great time.

My nephew is a wonderful artist and it is fun seeing his work up close. He is very gifted and I really enjoy seeing his work. You can view his work at Jonathan Yukio Clark. I will someday commission a painting from him.

I don't really know what our plans are for today, but I suppose we will find something to do. Have a great day and for now ALOHA.

My New Obsession

I found this tutorial on Quilts and Pieces.

It is so fun to make these bags, they are now my new obsession.

As you can see I have made a few of them. I sold two to a friend and made the rest for me. We are leaving soon on vacation and these bags will work well helping me keep things organized.

Still rolling in the cotton boll

I am still working on the Roll Roll Cotton Boll quilt, but I am getting closer to putting the body of it together. I am now in the process of sewing the alternate blocks, the neutrals, if you will allow me to call them that. This quilt has been a slow process for me, I just don't know why I can't seem to get it moving forward.

I did have a slight slow down, I wore out the foot pedal on my machine. I found a replacement, so now I am back to sewing and slowly moving forward.

I did complete two pair of felted slippers so far this year. My sister, who has move to North Dakota, requested a new pair (hers wore out) so I decided to knit a pair for her husband also. They are enjoying the warm slippers in the midst of the very cold winter they are having, (global warming).

Well, I guess I better get back to sewing and housework.

My first lucky penny of the New Year. I found it outside of the gas station this morning. My first time out since the New Year.

Part 4 and 5 of the Bonnie Hunter mystery. I will now move on to part 6.

My Mother and Me on New Years Eve. I drove up to visit my Mom for New Years and we rang in the New Year then went to bed. Didn't get much done but looking through quilting magazines and talking but had a good time.

It has been a busy year. I did not add in all my canning and hours spent on campaigning during the political season. All in all I would say a very productive year.

Not Traditional

This is probably my last quilt for this year. It is my interpretation of a Halloween pattern in one of my quilting magazines. I like the quilt and decided when I saw it I would make it with Christmas fabrics. I don't know if I really like the quilt now that is is done but it is done. I have named the quilt "Ghouls of Christmas past".

We had a bit of snow tonight. I believe is meting away now. I took this picture of a metal jack-o-lantern on my patio table. I guess this is what they mean when they say "snow on the pumpkins". :)

One week later

One week, that is how long it took me to make the 60 neutral blocks needed for the Roll,Roll, Cotton Boll quilt. This is the first of the steps for me. I started on step 3 because I wanted to get this out of the way. Step one and step two seem to be a little less time consuming to me. Step five, posted today, well not that might take awhile.

I have also decided to join in with Judy L on her Stars and Strips sampler quilt along. I ordered my book last night and look forward to starting this project in the New Year. The good Lord knows I have plenty of patriotic fabric for this quilt.

Well, time for lunch the move on to some house work.

Another Post

I finally ordered myself a yarn swift. I have wanted one for a long time and finally took the plunge and ordered one. I had the winder, received it in a bunch of yarn given to me by someone. This is a picture of my grandson showing me how to use the swift. He likes to help Grandma.

I have knit three pair of socks for my little grandsons. There ages are 2, 5 months and 7 weeks. The socks fit fine and I will make more as time allows.

I am working on a very strange Christmas quilt. The pattern has been altered to fit my likes. I followed a pattern in an older quilting magazine, and it is actually supposed to be a Halloween quilt but I wanted to make it a Christmas quilt. I don't know how many people would like a quilt like this but I wanted to try and see how it worked. I don't think I would make another.

I have my felted slippers made for my co-workers. Each year I give them a pair of felted booties for Christmas. They like them and the booties are very easy to knit up and felt. If you notice the one stripe of white yarn at the toe, this is so you know which is the right or left foot. I found out the first year I made these for myself, it does matter. While you wear the slippers they conform to your feet and even after washing the

slippers fit better if worn on the same feet you wore them on before washing. I guess you just have to remember if you like the stripe on the right foot or left foot.

Well I best get back to the quilting machine so I can move on the the next project. I really want to work on Bonnie's new mystery but I have to complete what I can working on now. The sooner I get done the sooner I can start the mystery and catch up.

Here is is completed. I was asked if the letters are free form, liberated, or what ever you want to call them. Yes they are. I have fun making them. It is a bit time consuming but I like the outcome. Now that I look at the little quilt I see where I would have made some changes but it is done and time to move forward.

Being Creative

With the elections over and more time to be creative this is what I am coming up with so far. I have decided I want a fall wall hanging. My Halloween wallie is still up and I wanted one to represent fall, this is what I have so far.

I think it is coming out pretty much how I want.

Some one took this picture of me on election night. I like it, I think it is one of the better pictures I have seen of myself. Now you know what I look like. I don't like pictures of myself but I do like this one.

Halloween quilt

The completed Halloween quilt. I like the outcome. It completed at approximately 75x93. Now onto another project. I have a few quilts I need to put borders on and quilt so that might where I spend my time right now.

The campaigns are over. We didn't win but it was fun anyway. I ran for Soil and Water Conservation District and came in 3rd. I feel good about that, it was my first time to run for a position,(other than PCP) and I received or 14,500 votes. I will take a few months off and decide where to go from there. I will run for a position in 2012 but don't know what yet.

I better get some lunch eaten and head back to work.

Quilt done and one in progress

I have my Halloween quilt done and am in the process of quilting it. I found this pattern from a link on Moda Bake Shop quilting blog. It is actually a quilt pattern the designer made using her "hst" left overs from another quilt. I decided to make Halloween HST's and make it into a Halloween quilt. I like the outcome and you will see the completed quilt when all done.

This is the pattern from Moda Bake Shop that I made. I like it, probably will give to charity, haven't really decided yet.

None of the flowers are the same color. I like that, then I don't have to worry about getting two of the same side by side. I will say it takes a lot of fabric to be able to do that, but I don't seem to have a problem with that.

Quilting has been going on

This is a quilt I made from left over 1/4 circles from my "Black Hole Sun" quilt.

I used scraps, made the blocks and placed them into this design. You can't see in the picture but I quilted feathers in the black area and arcs in the scrappy area. I gave this quilt to a friend in exchange for some yummy garden produce.

This quilt is a typical Trip Around the World, this will go to charity. I favor this pattern for charity quilts because they go together fast and look nice. My focus fabric was the dolphin fabric. I wanted to focus on this being a quilt for a boy, it just seems like it is so much easier to find fabric and make quilts for girls.

I have been busy with the campaign. We have three weeks left and boy are they going to be crazy. Yard signs are being destroyed and stolen. We have much canvassing to do. I counted out and bagged 1000 fliers yesterday that will be distributed this week-end. We have vote by mail in Oregon (which I detest) and ballots went out yesterday. This week-end will most likely be the most important week-end of the political season. I can only pray Gods hand will direct this election in the freedom direction and will have to ask for His peace on whatever the out come it. Remember, we get the government WE elect.

Michael Steele

The Fire Pelosi Bus came through town today and I was there. This is a picture of me with my friend and Micheal Steele. I had to work and got to the event late but I did have a chance to meet Mr. Steele. He is a very friendly man. I heard his speech was very good and inspiring. All I can say this was probably the only time I will have the chance to meet Mr Steele and I am very happy I took advantage of it.

Here I am with my helpers getting ready to walk in the Teddy Bear Parade. We had a fun time walking the Parade and handing out cards for Delia. May God help her win this election.

I have also been busy quilting some tops I have completed. I will post pictures when completed. I am ready to get quilts gathered together for charity. I think I will take my donations in during the middle of October this year.

My third grandchild will arrive next month and I am getting very excited about that. We all think it is a girl and will be fun to see if we are right or in for a big surprise.

Not much else. Busy with campaign, work and quilting.

Finally Finished

I made this small wall hanging/table topper about two years ago and finally finished it this year. I quilted it last year , got the binding sewn on this year. My daughter is very happy as it now resides on her coffee table.

I have been busy with the campaign. Spend a full day last week-end putting up signs. We put up small yard signs and large 4x8 signs, but the nice thing is many hands make lite work. We had about 18 people working for about 5 hours.

I am now working on a TATW for charity. I will post a picture when completed.

Finished

This quilt has been finished for a few weeks now but I am finally getting around to sharing it.

I found the pattern on Judy L's blog, I have looked for it tonight and can't find it again so I don't exactly what day she posted about it. The post was about a new blog and a free pattern available on the blog. Anyway, the quilt is fun to make but as you can see many corners that need to be trimmed.

I like how it turned out and the two preemie quilts in the last post are from the trimmed corners. I have enough to make another preemie quilt but haven't gotten to it yet.

I started a new paper piece quilt, I have made one like it before, it is the basket quilt I made a while back. I figure with canvassing for the upcoming elections a slow paced paper piece quilt is right in line.

I will have to figure out a new quilt to make when sewing group starts up again in September but I have a few weeks to make that decision.

Well, I have things to get done for tomorrow so I will close for tonight.

Preemie Quilts

When my newest grandson came six weeks early he had to stay in the NICU for 7 days. One of the practices at the hospital is to have a quilt they give each baby when they leave the hospital.

My daughter and son-in law were very impressed with the care they received and the baby received, and especially overwhelmed with the fact that he went home with a quilt. ( not that he needed one with both grandmothers quilters)

My daughter and son-in-law asked me if I would make some preemie quilts to give to the hospital. NO PROBLEM, was my reply. Here are four that I have completed so far.

Not much else happening. I am finishing the binding on a quilt, I will post the picture when completed. I will have to decide where to go from there, which quilt pattern and which fabrics to use.

Why Not

My latest complete. I used some of the HST's from the black/white quilt. I wanted to make it rail fence but when I sewed the black/white on either side the block was not square. I had to decide what to do, my decision, sew a thin yellow piece and go from there. That is the reason I named the quilt "Why Not".

This will be another charity quilt. It most likely is a double bed size. I have misplaced my measure tape so I can't measure it right now.

Once again I did not square up the HST's, if I had I probably would not have had the problem with being square. Oh well done is done and it will keep someone warm.

I best get busy. I am off for 8 days and have plenty to keep me busy. House work, sewing, campaigning.

My "green" machine

This is my new "green" machine. It is not an antique but a reporduction I ordered from All Brands. I was tired of looking and not finding local, or if I found one I would just miss out on it, and bidding on ebay is a joke, anyway I thought so. I figure the bids are rigged so they can get a higher price for the machine.

I am happy with it, it sews really nicely, and it will be fun for the grandkids when they get old enough to play with it.

Busy Day

I spent the day making six receiving blankets and two burp cloths, among other things I had to do.

These are going to go to my grand baby whom is due in October. I do not know the sex so I had to go as neutral as possible. I know the grandma burp cloths are not very neutral but it is what I had so it will work.

It was a lot of fun choosing the flannel I used. I didn't realize there were so many different prints.

He's home

My sweet grand baby is home and guess what, they come with duck feet here.

This is him wearing his cute little duck slippers I knit. His daddy is a Duck fan so I thought these were going to be the best gift for college football in the fall.

I have knit a pair for big brother, I need to sew in yarn ends in and they will be done.

I am working on a quilt using the HST's from the Bonnie Hunter quilt I just completed. I will post a picture when done.

Thank-you, everyone for the prayers for my new grandson. His progression was wonderful and he is advancing leaps and bounds daily.

What a week

I completed this quilt this week. It is Bonnie's Star Stuck quilt pattern. I made it larger to fit my queen size bed. I made it 11 x 11 instead of 9 x 11. The quilt fits perfectly. I had a different idea in mind on what the finished quilt would look like but this is what I came up with. I like it but also have mixed feelings about it.

It has been an eventful week around our house. We had our grandson with us all week. His mommy was expecting second baby in August but baby decided to come early.

Conan decided to grace us with his presence 6 weeks early. He is a cute fella and weighed in at 6lbs 9ozs. I haven't met him yet as he in in NICU and hopefully will be coming home this week. He is progressing nicely and if you would, would you please surround him and his parents with prayer.

I am going to close now. I am tired and have some more work to do before I go to bed. I forgot how much energy it takes to have a little one 24 hours a day, the house is quite now and we miss the little guy. Grandpa and I took big brother home today.

Gnomes in the house

I finished the gnome quilt. This is back of it. I had three extra blocks, didn't want them sitting around, so I encorporated them into the mesh-mash backing I pieced together.

Here us the front of the quilt. I used the HST you get from trimming the cornors on snowball blocks or any block that you sew a squae onto the cornor than trim. I did not square them up, I didn't want to take the time, so some a bit wacky, but I guess it adds to the charm of the quilt. I will donate this quilt to charity at the end of the year. It is child sized, to big to consider baby but not quite big enough for a twin bed, probably good for a 3-4 year old.

I am home today. My daughter went into labor 6 weeks early. I do think they miscalculated the due date, but I am not a doctor. Just heard from her, the contractions have slowed, they are letting things progress naturally, baby and mommy are doing fine so they want to let things progress on their own.

Please keep them in your prayers that all goes well. They are saying they would like to wait until Saturday before any type of intervention. That is unless baby decideds differently.

I made this quick Trip Around the World in my sewing group for May. I needed a project and decidede this would be a quick one and a good quilt to donate to charity. I made this quilt from a book I have. I can't remember the name of the book right now, and don't know where I have placed the book. I did change the pattern a bit. I decided to use all greens, thinking it would look like white flowers in a feild or the floor of a forest.

The pattern called for cream and blue in the patches. I like the outcome and so did my son, so this quilt now resides in Colorado.

Time to get to some quilting.

WOW!!! two posts in one month, and hopefully more and not only that but three pictures on this post. I figured out how to put more than one picture at a time. I am kinda slow at times figuring out this technology. USC quilt, made for my son, he went to USC so I figured he needed a USC quilt for the baby while they watch football together.

Halloween quilt, with the baby coming in October, he or she needed a Halloween quilt.

More of a tradional quilt. I figured I should make a bit of a traditional quilt for the little one. I don't know, there were so many quilts and blankets given at the shower they won't need another one.

Enough for today, I am finishing up a quilt, child size, and hopefully will post some pictures later in the month.

Hope everyone has a great week-end. We did have some sun this afternoon but if the weather report is right it will be cold and rainy all week-end. Where is the global warming I keep hearing about? We are at the end of June and still need to have the heat on.

Okay, I don't know why but blogger is allowing me to only upload one picture. This is the sweater set I knitted for my new grandbaby. I love the yarn and I think it will work well for either grandson or grandaughter. I won't know what the little bundle of joy will be until birth so I tried to make a universal outfit. The baby shower was last Saturday and the new mommy liked the set. I also purchased a pair of cute little blue jeans to go along with the outfit. Baby is due in October so should work out well.

I guess I will publish this and see if I can upload the quilts. I might have to do that another day.

I finished this table topper last week. I needed a new cover for my antique sewing machine so I came up with this idea. I made it while I sewed, making up the pattern as I went along. I wanted something patriot but springy, so this is it. There are a few things I would have done different but I don't seem to find these problems until after I am done.

I also spent my Mother's Day sewing, along with doing laundry and cooking. I am using up HST's that I have from other projects and a free paper piecing elf I found on the internet. This will probably end up being a baby blanket I donate to charity. I might send it to Tennessee for the flood victims.

I hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day. Mine was wonderful. Both of my children called and I had great conversations with them. I called my Mom and enjoyed my conversation with her.

I am still busy quilting, I have 3 baby quilts done that I can't reveal right now and many knitting projects going on.

I am busy with a political campaing right now so my posts will probably be few and far between. I know my readership will suffer but that is the price I must pay.

I have been doing quilting but I can't show the quilts until later. I will show you what I have been working on along with my quilting. These are the cute little slippers I have made for my new grandbaby. The grandbaby on this side will not need another baby blanket, due to the fact the older brother got so many, so I knitted a pair of slippers.

Daddy is a big Oregon Ducks fan, we watch college football during the fall, so what does the new baby need. A really cute pair of duck slippers to wear to keep the feet warm.

Here is the snowball quilt I completed. It is not done well but it is done! I have been working on the quilt for 5 years and just wanted it done. There were many many curved seams to sew and they are not perfect. The quilting is less than perfect also but it is comfy and someone will love it.

On to another quilt. I have been busy with baby quilts I can not show yet so it might be awhile before I post again.

This a quilt I made last year and quilted but I don't think I ever posted a picture of the completed quilt. It is sunflowers, I used a pattern from an old quilting magazine which had this block for a poinsettia but I wanted to see what it would look like as a sunflower. I like it. I completed the scrappy Trip Around the World. It is way to big for my bed. I cut the strips at 2.5 instead of 2 and ended up with a king size quilt. I like the outcome but it is way to big for my bed.

I have been working on a tumbler quilt. The top is done and quilted, I just have to trim and put a binding on it. I will post a picture when I get it done.

I am now working on finishing up my snowball quilt I started about 5 years ago. I really am trying to get things done that I have sitting around collecting dust.

Well, I better get back to work.

Done and Done

Completed the Ohio Star quilt from Quiltville. I made a mistake when I made the Christmas tree skirt on the stars, miscalculation on my math and size of the final star. I therefore had 8 stars I didn't know what to do with. I think I put them to good use. I made 8 more blue stars then 6 each of larger red and blue stars, followed Bonnie's pattern and this is what the result was. I like it and think I will call it Patriot Snowfall. My Christmas Bear Paw is finished. That is all I have to say about this. I am done with it and happy with the outcome.

I am completeing the scrappy trip around the world. It certainly is going to be a utility quilt and will post a picture when completed.

I made this small quilt two years ago and never quilted it. I finally got it quilted and the binding put on it. I will give it to charity for a table topper or baby quilt. My daughter wanted a table topper for her coffee table. This is what I came up with. I like it except I wish I would have used a different color where the cream fabric is. I wish it were a bit brighter. I contemplated when I picked my fabrics but went ahead with the choice. Bad mistake.

If she decides she doesn't want it I will donate it to charity for a doll quilt or maybe someone else will use it as a table topper.

Mysteries solved

I have completed these two mystery quilts this year. I don't know the name or author of this quilt, I was given the pattern from a friend. I could be done in either two color or scrappy dark/light, I choose two color. I don't really know if I like the outcome but it is done and the fabric is used. I just might make a scrappy one in the future. My friend made hers in scrappy and it is really nice.

Bonnie's Christmas mystery. I choose to make mine patriotic. I like how it came out. I am thinking the yellow maybe a little bright but have been told otherwise.

Tow different views. I don't have a great spot for taking pictures of my quilts, this is the best I can come up with.

Quilted but not perfect

have finally finished quilting my Christmas Bear Paw quilt. I did a lot of ruler work on it and the process was tedious.

I am happy with the outcome. I do have mistakes and some wavy lines but this is my best custom quilting to date.

I will now trim and put binding on the quilt. I am busy working on a scrappy trip around the world so the trimming and binding will come later.

Been Busy

I made a pillow for my grandson, now he has his own when he comes to visit. My daughter says he won't use it, but at least it is here. Remember this quilt I started in December of 2008. I finally finished it. I am trying to get my undones done and this is the first.

I figured out how I was going to do the corners, got it work with much effort. I am serious about that, it took about 45 minutes for each corner, just getting it to align and come out right. There are some flaws but it is what it is.

I have the quilt loaded and have started the quilting process. I think I am going to like this one. This is my first bear paw, I did make Judy L's bears in the kitchen but already had this one going, so this is my first one.

I will post a picture when completed.

End of a year and decade

Starting a new quilt. I have one loaded on the quilting machine, Bonnie's new mystery quilt and this one started with the piecing. Here is a picture of the thread spools from this year. 53 spools and 97 pre-wound bobbin carcasses.

The tree skirt I made for my son and my favorite DIL. I had to wait until after Christmas to post so I wouldn't ruin the surprise.

A hat a knit and gave to a friend for her daughter. Mittens I knit for my grandson. I knit three pair of these mitten, two for Otis and one for a friends grandson.

Thanksgiving 2009

Well things were going pretty good until I decided I was too tired to drive any longer and let my husband drive. He really was driving very cautiously for the road conditions but it just wasn't to be. We hit a patch of icy slush and went for a real ride.

Fortunately we are all fine. My husband , me and the pets survived and walked away with nothing more than a few sore muscles.

Here he is smiling for the fact that all is well, the truck can be replaced but we can't be.

Well here is what we replaced the truck with. A new to us truck. It is a 2004 4x4. I think we are going to like it.

I made this cute snowman face during the week. I sort of followed a picture I received from someone and adjusted it to make it my own. He measures 14.5 by 14 if you measure the tips of the hat brim and 10.5 if you measure the main width. This cute little Santa face is from last time the quilting group met. One of our members brought the supplies and patterns for this and I tried one. He is cute. He measures 8 by 5.5.

Here is the complete basket quilt. I titled it "A tisket A tasket", I know it took a long time to come up with that one.

Charity donations

I knitted 24 pair of slippers for charity this year. Last year I made hats, this year I decided to make slippers and I am thinking next year mittens. Time will tell. I might just stick with hats and slippers. I did not achieve my goal of 12 quilts but I had 10. I donated these 10 quilts to Frontier Missions this year. This is the charity I have decided to donate to for the last 3 years I believe.

I will start accumulating quilts for next years donations now. I can't start the knitting yet as I have other projects to work on before I can start that.

It is hard to part with these quilts, each one is special in its own way and they are all unique but a girl can have only so many quilts. These quilts will go to people who really need them and I have to leave it as that.

A week-end in Montana

We spent the week-end in Montana burning slash on the property. Oh, what fun. Starting the fire, we eventually had four going.

This is my version of Marcie's new Christmas table topper. Marcie, at Patchalot More has offered a free table topper pattern for the last three years and I have made each one of them. I like her patterns, they are nice and her instructions are very concise.

I did change the color theme, I decided to go with more of a winter theme verses the Christmas theme.

I know I have not been very good at keeping up with my posts. I have not been very productive for one thing. I have been spending much of my time on facebook, if any of you who read my blog are interested e-mail me and I will add you as a friend to my facebook.

I have finished a few quilts and am in the process of putting the binding on, when they are completed I will post pictures.

Dimka is new to our household. I have been wanting a smokey gray kitten to name Dimka ever since I heard the word and now he resides with hubby and me. I brought him home from work today. Poor little fella had to ride home in the saddlebags of my Harley.

A co-worker has a friend who had kittens to give away so I said if they had a gray one and a male I would take him.

I had to ride my Harley to work today because hubby has to do a valve job on my pick-up and it is torn apart right now. Dimka came to work right when I was getting off and had to ride home in one side of my saddlebags. He did wonderfully. Not a shaking bone in the sweet little guy at all.

I think he is going to fit in just fine.

College Football Season

College football starts tomorrow night, my SIL's favorite team plays at Boise State. I finished the quilt tonight. My daughter and SIL purchased the fabric, they wanted a two sided quilt with their favorite teams.

This is what I came up with. I don't know how it happened but the USC side is off center. I made the top a bit larger as I put it as the backing for quilting. I folded in half and marked center but when quilted it came out off center. Oh well, it is what it is.

I could say I did it that way on purpose for conversation or maybe no one would have noticed if I would have kept my mount shut. Either way done is done and it will be loved and used.

I hope everyone else is as excited as me about the new season.

What I did on my summer vacation.

Summer vacation, well one week for us. This is what we did on this vacation. We al met in Monatna and worked our little butts off.

Put down a subfloor.

Put up some walls.

Added some rafters.

Even worked into the night.

Put on finishing touches.

Now we have a nice little shed for storage and a place to sleep while visiting our property.

Six adults and one baby, one week in Montana, and this is what we accomplished. I am very happy with the outcome and proud of my husband, kids, and kids in-law. We all worked hard and we will enjoy the fruits of our labor for many many years.

I have done some sewing this summer but not much, that is why I haven't shared much.

I hope to get back to a regular schedule now that the summer is winding down. I am working on a quilt for football and then I will move on to others. I will post a picture of quilt when completed as I have in the past.

I am behind on reading blogs also. I might be leaving some comments on older posts so if they are read that's good if not than that's the way life goes.

A well loved quilt

This is the quilt I made for my Aerosmith buddy in 1999. She has used this quilt every day since. Here are pictures of what this quilt looks like today.

I think she got her use out of it. I think I would have to say she loved this quilt.

She still refuses to give it up.

I replaced it with this quilt, but she still wants her Aerosmith quilt. She wanted to know if I could patch it for her somehow. I don't think so.

My friend just had a hip replacement and I knew she needed a new recovery quilt. I can only hope she loves this new quilt as much. Time will tell.

Here are three completed quilts for the month of June. I finished Matt's American quilt. He is here visiting now so he will be able to take it home with him. The nice thing about it being completed is he can also use it one the 4th of July if he chooses. I hope he likes it. If it looks familiar, it is because I made one a couple years ago and have it posted as my profile picture.

This is the quilt I made for Otis. It will be his gift for his first birthday. I think he can grow into it and I hope he likes the pirate theme.

This table topper I gave to my daughter-in-law as a gift for graduating from college. She received her degree in accounting in May and I finally got the top done now. I won't have to mail it either as I gave it to her while they are here visiting.

Well I best get back to work. I have potato salad to make for a pool party this afternoon with Otis. I am excited to see him. I have some sewing to do also.

Loading Matty's quilt

I want to have it completed by the end of the month so I can give it to him then.

I goofed

Okay, I started a quilt for my son. Well this is supposed to be a sawtooth star block. Guess who cut the wrong fabric for the corner squares? Yep, you are right me!!! Here is what they should look like.

I made soap yesterday. This is goat milk/oatmeal soap. I look forward to using this in the fall.

I quilted the quilt I made for Otis. It is big. It will definitely fit a twin bed. Otis is now 8 months. I guess he will grow into it.

Libby, at A Simple Girl, posted a cute little quilt last week-end and I just had to make it. I loved the pattern and wanted to make a flower basket type quilt so here is my version. Thank-you Libby for the link to this great little quilt. Like Libby, I left part of the quilt off because I have a different purpose in mind for this little beauty.

I have been working on my Liberty Tea quilt also. Here is where I am so far. I will add some borders and some wonky words. I plan to add "Liberty Tea" to the quilt somehow and maybe some thing else like would you like a cup of? I will make a decision in the week to come. Any suggestions will be welcomed.

I had a birthday last week also. I am stepping on year deeper into the waters of the 50's. So far so good. Not a real good picture but I don't ever take good pictures.

I am still quilting on the sunflower quilt but have been side tracked by my new project. I am in the process of making a Liberty Tea quilt. It is on the concept of my wall hanging I made a few weeks ago. In the process of piecing the blocks together. I hope it turns out the way I want it to, oh well however it turns out will be the way it is.

I have been doing some quilting

I have been busy this week, and what have I been doing? Well I have been busy listening to talk radio and quilting. I started quilting on the sunflower quilt. I have decided to do some cross-hatching on it and I don't particularly care for cross-hatching. Cross-hatching seems to take so much time to get so little done. I am a bit over half done and hope to get this done this week-end.

I received good news this week-end. I sent in five entries to Sisters and all five were accepted. I am really excited about that. I had four last year and now five this year.

Well I best get back to quilting.

Bears in the Posies

This quilt has actually been done for a couple weeks now but I finally got around to taking a picture of it. Here is my version of Judy L's "Bears in the farmhouse". I have renamed mine to Bears in the Posies because of the floral print. My fabric choices were not the best on this quilt. The bear toe nails totally take over the whole quilt but that is the way it is going to be. It really is a pretty quilt in real life. Now I wonder how long until I get around to quilting it. I have four others that need to be quilted also.

Here is a small quilt I made last month. This would be one of the reasons for the sl0wness of the Bears in the Posies. I had some fabric laying around and wanted to make this quilt for a while now and decided to go for it. It will be a charity quilt. Some one will love it.

I am off work today, that means housework, quilting, and lunch with a friend. I best be getting busy. Have a good day one and all.

April 15th Tea Party

I attended the Tea Party. It was so much fun. I had never done anything like this before. Will I do it again, YOU BETTCHA!!!!! I am planning on attending a National Tea Party on Oct 2 in DC. I hope to see many of you there.

Tea Party

Just a small wall hanging or table topper I made yesterday.

We were to go to my daughter's for Easter dinner but sickness hit her home so plans were canceled. I needed something to occupy my time so I came up with this.

I hope many of you are planning to attend a Tea Party in your area on the 15th. Let the government know we are tired of this out of control spending. This is not an us/them situation, this is a save America situation. We need to stop this spending so our children and grandchildren and their children will not be strapped with this tax burden.

Table Runner

My project today at the quilting group I attend. I know it is totally the wrong time of year and not an Easter but Halloween topper but these are the fabrics I choose to work with. Tomorrow is Easter and I will not have it quilted by than so why not make something I will have quilted by the time the day arrives.

I do think my fabric choices for the pinwheels is a bit bright but I plan to quilt with black thread, spider web pattern so that will tone it down a bit.

Well I best be getting some house work done.

Friday quilt show

Pictures of a quilt show I attended on Friday. So many beatiful quilts. It is really hard to pick a favorite.

This quilt is an raffle quilt for a school in West Lynn, OR. The lady standing in from of the quilt is the maker of the quilt. She did a great job and it is a beautiful quilt. Today my friend Diane, and I went to a quilt show in Milwaukee, Or. It is an annual show and I usually have a few quilts in it but I missed the dead line for entries this year so I went and enjoyed others works. This is an original by Jon and Rita Weston. I do not know these people but they had a very good display and Don is a longarm quilter. You can find his services at Blue Sky Quilting. I really liked this quilt.

This is a very clever apple quilt that was on display. It is named "APPLES" by Cathy Goddard.

I just realized this picture is upside down. Oh well, the top is just a pretty. I don't know the name or maker of this quilt. It is a really nice quilt though.

An Angel

I stopped at Goodwill today on my way home from work. I found a book and a photo album to purchase. I was at the cashier and guess what I forgot my wallet at home. I was mortified. The cashier said she would take a check because it was 4.98 total, well guess what, the machine would not take my check. I was saddened but knew I had to leave the items and go, no other option. Well, God had other plans. A very nice man two people behind me offered to pay for my items. He wanted me to have the book I was purchasing. He said he had read it and it changed his life, his outlook on fiances. The book is "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". God had and angel behind me in line. I offered to take his name and address to send the money to him but he would not allow. I will pay it forward, at sometime in my life I will come across someone with whom I can return the favor.

I found out he is a minister from a church in the Seattle area who had come to Portland to drop his daughter off for spring break. He had decided to stop in a Goodwill just at the time when I needed an angel. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Some competed quilts

I made this quilt during the month of December. Quilted it during our snowstorm at Christmas. I will donate this to charity later in the year. As you can see I did not have enough of the printed fabric so I substituted dark green for the corners. I followed Bonnie's pattern, Scrappy Mountain Majesty. What a great pattern.

I made this quilt in Jan. I followed a pattern from the book "Quilts for people who still don't have time to quilt." I like how it turned out. I looks so warm and cozy to me.

I finally quilted Prairie Dust. I like how it turned out, all except of the feathers that is. I am not happy with my feathers. I should just admit to myself this is not my forte. I will donate this quilt to charity.

Here are my bear paw squares for the Bears in the Farmhouse quilt. Waiting for the next set of intructions. Here is the completed scrap quilt. I don't think I did a very good job with the borders. The quilt is a bit puckery and wobbly but some kid out there will love it. I like the colors I chose for the borders.

I can't really say I like the inside of the quilt but hey, fabric out. Who knows where else I would have used this fabric. It is GONE GONE GONE!!! and that is a good thing.
